Biography

Barbara Warchalewska was born in Poznan, Poland and started playing the cello at the age of seven. Her educational path led her to travel abroad, where she began her studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel, Switzerland. After receiving a Bachelor’s degree with honors in the class of prof. Thomas Demenga, she continued her graduate studies in Performance and Pedagogy with the aforementioned professor and prof. Rafael Rosenfeld.

Barbara is a prize-winner and finalist of many cello and chamber music competitions, among others: Concert Artist Guild International Competition, International ProCello Foundation Competition, Orpehus Swiss Chamber Music Competition, International Zarebski Competition and Pinerolo International Chamber Music Competition.
She was also a finalist of Concerto Competition in Calgary, Canada, where she has performed with Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.

Barbara attended many master classes working with renowned cellist such as Frans Helmerson, Jens Peter Maintz, Philippe Muller, Arto Noras, Wolfgang Emmanuel Schmidt, Wolfgang Boettcher and Hans Jørgen Jensen.

Barbara has extensively given concerts in most of European countries, the USA, Canada, China, Japan and the UAE.
As a passionate chamber and orchestral musician, she participated in various festivals including the Krzyzowa-Music Festival, Miami Music Festival, Bolzano Festival Bozen, Misa Festival in Shanghai, Rome Chamber Music Festival, Adelboden Chamber Music Festival, Klosters Music, Engadin Festival, Altstadt Serenaden Festival, Klang Basel Festival, La Folle Journée Festival, where she has been working with leading musicians from around the world.

She is also a scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, Pro Cello Foundation, Fritz Gerber Stiftung, National Centre for Culture program „Young Poland”, Stiftung Melinda Esterházy de Galantha, Musikakademie Lichtenstein and many others.
